Google has written a letter to Microsoft demanding a Windows Phone 8 YouTube app is “immediately withdrawn” from the Windows Phone Store.

The Microsoft developed Home windows Phone 8 YouTube application violates the YouTube Tos, so Google has required it’s taken off the Home windows Phone Store and all sorts of existing downloaded versions suspended by May 22.

Francisco Varela, Director for Global Platform Partnerships at YouTube, writes straight to Todd Brix, Gm for Microsoft’s Home windows Phone Apps and Store, asking him to get rid of the offending application. Because the letter details, the YouTube application for Home windows Phone 8 removes adverts and enables users to download YouTube videos from inside the application.

“We lately grew to become conscious of a Microsoft-authored YouTube application for Home windows Phone 8,” writes Varela. “It seems the applications: (1) enables users to download videos from YouTube (2) prevents the display of advertisements in YouTube video playbacks and (3) plays videos our partners have restricted from playback on certain platforms (e.g. cellular devices with limited feature sets).”

“These features directly harm our content creators and clearly violate our Tos,Inches he added Varela. “We ask that you instantly withdraw this application in the Home windows Phone Store and disable existing downloads from the applications by Wednesday, May 22, 2013.”

Varela procedes to say Google was “surprised and disappointed that Microsoft made a decision to launch [such] an application”, especially because it “deliberately” deprives YouTube video creator of the earnings.

“Content creators earn money online by monetizing their content through advertising. Regrettably by blocking advertising and allowing downloads of videos, the application reduces an invaluable ongoing revenue source for creators, and harm the thriving content ecosystem online.Inches

Home windows Phone 8 users get access to a “fully-functional” HTML5 YouTube application with the internet browser, as Varela highlights within the letter.

An announcement from Microsoft as a result of the letter states the organization “look toward solving this condition together for the mutual customers.”
